  1. Dr. Scott’s book is a must read for first-generation college students to college administrators/leaders. Dr. Scott candidly shares powerful truths grounded in self-acceptance, resiliency and advocacy. Additionally, she shares the importance of owning your story, honoring/celebrating diversity and failing forward. This book is an invaluable resource for all higher education stakeholders.

  2. I finished reading, You are Accepted, in one day because it was such a good read. I was impressed with how Dr. Scott told her story with such bravery and vulnerability that made her instantly someone you wanted to cheer for but also someone you wanted on your team because she is tenacious, inspiring, and refreshingly honest. I attended an HBCU (TSU) for my bachelor’s, then attended two predominately white institutions for my MPH and MD. It was intriguing to read Dr. Scott’s experiences and see the similarities in what I have encountered. I highly recommend this book to educators at all levels, government officials, parents, students, and anyone wanting to be informed about the opportunities and struggles in higher education. It will also hopefully start more conversations about institutional racism that impacts higher education, society, and individuals. Dr. Scott did a beautiful job discussing difficult but important topics that cannot be addressed if they continue to be ignored.

  14. Dr. Scott’s book, “You are Accepted ” gives an in-depth look into the inequalities of colleges and universities when it comes to enrollment for underprivileged youths who would like to be accepted into various educational institutions. Dr. Scott also provides valuable information on strategic development in not only the traditional approach of going to a college or university, but she feels that incentives should be implemented such as daycares, trade schools, and various other resources to motivate people to apply for higher education. A very awakening and informative read for anyone who is thinking about attending a college and or university.

  15. Hey, Dr. Scott! Hope all is going well. Just wanted to let you know I FINALLY got a hold of the copy of your book I had been waiting to get after ultimately having to cancel the order I originally placed through Books-A-Million when it had been 8 weeks and still “pending” to be sent out, and then found another way through one of my sisters to procure it faster and got it last week! It was definitely worth the wait. I’ve finished reading it, and could hardly put it down. I found it a riveting and illuminating. and loved the way you shared your own story of the challenges and obstacles you had to overcome as well as your successes and achievements that I know will positively inspire, motivate, and help countless others to find their paths to success – and acceptance! I was really glad to finally read it, and, like I said, very much worth the wait! Great job and tremendous book that I believe will have a meaningful impact on a lot of lives.

  16. What a wonderful delight! A quick read and a compelling life story—Dr. Scott’s wide range of higher ed experiences make this book a must-read and should-gift for students, families, and higher ed faculty and staff of all departments and roles. As someone who has also worked at state schools, branch campuses and PWIs, her stories ring true…and amen! Women as brave as Dr. Scott are so necessary for creating change at these institutions, although they are, so unfortunately, rarely thanked for their efforts and feedback. Higher ed must finally begin to cherish the canaries in the coal mine, trying to improve the community and address its shortcomings, or we we will continue to lose talent left and right. A powerful, immensely readable package! Don’t miss it. You’ll feel inspired…accepted.

  20. This is definitely one of my favorite reads during 2021… Dr. Scott is truly an inspiration to our world… Raised in the Southside of Chicago, lover of constant learning, Director in Admissions of numerous Colleges and Universities (Vatterott, Cambridge College, Vanderbilt University, etc.), Educator, Mother, Wife, Friend, Mentor, and now Head of Admissions and Recruitment at Tennessee State University… Dr. Carjamin was truly transparent in this book by sharing personal, spiritual, and professional obstacles throughout… Dr. Scott is now paying it forward to future generations – reminding them that they too can write their own story and be great in this world… The gems shared in this book are amazing and sure to bless any reader… Congratulations on a job well done Carjie! After reading “You Are Accepted”, I was motivated to revisit goals that I thought were unattainable, and above that, it helped me to provide encouragement to someone who did not believe they too could change the course of their lives. Remarkable Dr. Scott!

  24. “I truly enjoyed reading, You Are Accepted: How to Get Accepted Into College And Life! This book was such a blessing. Carjie is being led by God and doing his work, helping others step into their purpose.

The book was such a quick read- no longer than 3 hours. Carjie provides a blueprint for students and professionals. I admire how she uniquely connects her personal experience to the larger context of the systemic racism, discrimination, and varying levels of inequities that African Americans/Black people experience daily, specifically in education, employment, and even homeownership.

As a higher education professional/doctoral candidate/black woman, I could personally relate to Carjie’s stories and experiences. Throughout the book, I found myself smiling, shaking my head, and saying, “Amen.” Although I don’t personally know Carjie, I found myself saying, “no, they didn’t do my girl Carjie like that.”

Carjie- you are doing impactful work and have challenged me in ways I can explain. You have inspired me to write a similar book and own my story. THANK YOU!!!” -Kirbi

  25. Dr. Carjie Scott honestly details the events in her life that give readers a first-hand look into her acceptance of life. Her story is one of resilience. Regardless of what hurdle came her way, she persisted and found an open door. Her humble beginning proves that no matter the circumstance you can be accepted in life!

  26. WOW! I finally got a chance to read your book “You are Accepted” yesterday. Despite the disappointments, the perseverance, passion, knowledge, innovation, and get-up-and-go spirit you exhibit throughout your life are incredible. Thank you for standing up and saying when things were wrong despite the retaliation against you.

  27. After reading the book, “You Are Accepted: How To Get Accepted Into College And Life” by Dr. Carjie Scott, I felt an exuberating burst of energy and inspiration that left me feeling like I could accomplish anything I set my mind to do. It was such an easy-flowing read that I couldn’t put it down until I finished reading every word, mainly because I could relate to many of the dilemmas that she faced. According to the title, one might think that it’s only a how-to-book for highschoolers attempting to enter college. It certainly serves that purpose; however, Dr. Scott’s dedication makes it crystal clear that her testament is meant to inspire and subsequently motivate readers to achieve their maximum potential.
I am impressed with the subtle techniques Dr. Scott utilizes to highlight the disfunction that she experienced in some of her career assignments. I‘ve seen similar situations among past colleagues that didn’t turn out well because they didn’t possess the patience and fortitude to stand up for themselves or simply leave a predicament that wasn’t in their best interest. An example would be when she quit her job in Atlanta and moved to Memphis on pure faith without a job, knowing that she had financial obligations that required immediate attention. She also demonstrated that some things could be accomplished by using common sense and being nice, as her grandmother requested. For example, when she first met her husband, she simply waved (which was probably accompanied by a smile), after noticing that he was looking her way. I have numerous female colleagues that have trouble meeting companions because they haven’t figured out how to engage professional men without appearing overzealous or assertive. This simple lesson would go a long way in solving this problem while producing some meaningful relationships.
Another mentioned scenario that made a profound impression on me (I have often wondered if others noticed) is when someone expresses an idea that is totally ignored until it is restated by someone else. Most of the time, the exact words are used, and now it has become a wonderful idea. It makes you want to say, “is that not what I just said”. But as a Christian, we bite our tongue and be nice. These lessons are embedded throughout the text and will significantly enhance the cognitive experience of everyone who reads them. Thanks Dr. Scott, for this stimulating offering, and I can hardly wait for your next book to hit the shelves.

  28. Dr. Scott shared real-life examples of how a path towards greater levels of education comes with so many opportunities and challenges. I appreciated reading the book as a guide for myself and others. Education in this country is a system; we all need to know how that system truly works. Highly recommend!

  29. This book should make us all GET UP and do SOMETHING! God gave everyone a skill and no matter what it is, we need to practice using our skills to help others! Thank you Dr. Scott for the remarkable work you have done and continue to do for education!!!

  30. Every parent, every guardian, every mentor, every school counselor, every school library should have a copy of this book because it is truly a blueprint for college preparation! I wish I had this book when we were preparing my daughter for college. I am a mentor and I plan to share this book with every parent and student that I touch because preparation time for college is never wasted time!

  31. Dr. Scott’s “Making College Affordable Session” was informative and timely. I learned some information that I need to share with my middle and high school students. I also plan to invite Dr. Scott to our upcoming Pre-Collegiate events. She is someone that you should get to know if you have children who are starting the college-going process.

  32. Well I believe the informational session I attended was phenomenal. I was impressed with The Education Equalizer Foundation. Carjie and her team had an interactive virtual workshop to prepare my son for college. I learned a lot and would recommend that others get connected to learn how to get prepared for college.

  33. Hello Dr. Scott. I’ve been meaning to follow up with you regarding my son Kobe. You were ever so gracious to take the time to listen to me and extend a hand to help him move forward in his college career- thank you again.
After speaking with you last and following the steps recommended, he did exceptionally well at Chattahoochee Tech, now has a 3.0 GPA, and decided to follow a different college career path. He’s still attending Chatt Tech and majoring in Welding. He found his path and loves it. He even received scholarships and free money due to his gpa. Yay!
Peace and blessings. I hope all is well with you also.

  34. I know that the work you do with EEF is extremely hands-on with the students and you are doing more than just assisting with applications… You are helping transform these students’ perceptions of themselves and empowering them to believe that they have what it takes to get accepted into college… and that they are WORTH IT! You are more than just a college readiness program… EEF is about recognizing the inequities in our society that continue to perpetuate some individuals/families from being without opportunity to prosper. You are staring those inequities in the face as you walk hand-in-hand with EEF participating students to debunk the myths and stigmas that tell them they are not good enough. You are truly transforming lives and exposing your students to opportunities they would not have dreamed of themselves.

  35. A message from the FAMU Alachua County Alumni Chapter: I wanted to personally thank each and every one of you for your commitment and participation in last night’s Town Hall. In talking with different attendees at the conclusion of the event, the same message resonated over and over in that EVERYTHING was on point and well received. Information was very informative and the passion that each of you spoke with said volumes of how much you care for the betterment of our students and for Black people as a whole. You are appreciated and I definitely value you. Keep making a difference in the service to our future leaders. I can’t say thank you enough!
